Being well-rested is essential no matter what kind of vehicle you are operating, and that goes double if you are behind the wheel of a massive semi-trailer. These huge, heavy vehicles require a lot of situational awareness and good judgment to operate safely, but that just isn’t possible if you are too tired to make good decisions. That is why Utility Trailer Sales of Washington has created this guide to help semi-trailer drivers find places to sleep on the road.

Have a Plan Ahead of Time

As always, having a plan ahead of time is the best way to do things. If you are familiar with the route, you can choose to revisit sleeping and eating facilities that you enjoyed using in the past, or try out something new. Either way, it is best that you at least have an idea of when and where along your route you will be taking a break. Make sure that you are not pushing yourself, and give yourself a bit of “wiggle room” in case you encounter heavy traffic or are otherwise delayed.

Use Your Smartphone to Your Advantage

The modern conveniences of a smartphone can make a trucker’s life so much easier. There are already several apps available that can help you find fueling stations, truck-friendly rest stops, and other important things along your route. Each offers something a little bit different, so try out a few and see what works best for your needs.
